LEGAL AND POLICY FRAMEWORK
Since independence, the Namibian Government has pursued free-market economic principles with a view to attracting foreign direct investment. The liberal Foreign Investment Act of 1993 provides for freedom from nationalization, freedom to remit capital and profits, currency convertibility, and a process for settling disputes equitably.
Key provisions of the Foreign Investment Act include:
- Promotes free market economy in Namibia
- Equal treatment of local and foreign investors
- Full protection of investment
- No prescription of local participation
- Repatriation of profits
- Granting of Certificate of Status Investment (CSI)
